Montbrú’s Buffalo Sarró has been awarded a Super Gold at this year’s World Cheese Awards, held in Bern (Switzerland). This distinction, one of the highest accolades of the competition, recognises it as the Best Bloomy-Rind Buffalo Cheese in the World.
The international jury —made up of experts from more than thirty countries— evaluated over 5,000 cheeses from 40 countries. Among them, the Buffalo Sarró stood out for its aroma, texture and distinctive character, reaffirming the quality of Montbrú’s cheeses and the cheesemaking potential of the Moianès region.
This award adds to other recognitions the creamery has received. In 2019, Montbrú’s Goat Sarró was already named Best Bloomy-Rind Goat Cheese in the World, also with a Super Gold. Together, these achievements consolidate Montbrú’s trajectory in crafting artisanal, characterful cheeses made with locally sourced milk and techniques that highlight the value of the territory.
According to Oriol Antúnez, Montbrú’s master cheesemaker, this recognition “is a great satisfaction and a testament to our unwavering commitment to quality and artisanal care. It also shows that Catalonia is a land of exceptional cheeses and that we can compete at the highest international level.”
